Building Your Story - Podcast Interview
In this episode, Diane interviews Renae Sams, founder and executive director of Build-Her.org, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting women in construction. Renee shares her journey from dreaming of working for NASA to becoming a leader in the construction industry. She details the challenges she faced, including overcoming imposter syndrome and navigating a career without an initial exposure to construction from site administrator to senior project manager on mission critical projects. Renae discusses the importance of visible female role models and her motivation to help other women feel they belong in the industry. She also talks about her book, which includes writing prompts to encourage reflection and growth, and her efforts to create a supportive community through her nonprofit.

Turner & Townsend Bridge Committee Book Club
Turner & Townsend hosted their first book club event at their Phoenix office, diving into three specific chapters of Build Her, Be Heard. It was an inspiring and insightful session where all participants were involved in conversation building activities specifically built from the book.
The Wounded Workforce also partnered with Build-Her.Org during this event to provide in depth knowledge and guidance on the importance of mental health in the construction industry.


iMWomen Special Event & Panel Discussion: Trailblazers & Truths: A Night of Real Talk and Real Connections
This in-person event is all about community, mentorship, and connection. IMWomen group is hosting a relaxed and inspiring evening featuring a panel of seasoned women in the mission critical industry, sharing how they got started, the lessons they’ve learned, and advice they wish they’d known when they began.
After the panel, they’ll open up the floor for casual networking and meaningful conversations.

Skilled AF Podcast Interview
Listen to the Interview hosted by The Skilled Project who hosts the Skilled AF podcast where Renae shares what started as a temp job turned into a career in mission-critical construction projects for the military and major tech companies. That experience and the barriers she faced along the way, inspired her to launch Build-Her.org, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing visibility and creating real pathways for women, especially women of color, in construction and the skilled trades.

Women in Water / Construction’s Resilient Empowered Women (WiW/CREW) Retreat Day held at the Always This Good Retreat Center in Phoenix, AZ. This custom retreat (organized by others) focused on strengthening personal friendships in the workplace and enhancing negotiation skills. The day included a ritual of gratitude for our female friendships, gentle yoga, meditation, chair massage, aromatherapy, group discussions and exercises, and a panel discussion from influential leaders in the industry.
