Highlights from Cynthia’s Story:

Work-Life Balance is possible. The transition from a small, family-owned company where she initially lacked having work-life balance, to joining a large, hyperscale general contractor, Cynthia was able to maintain a healthy work/life balance with the support and resources provided by her team. Early on she had felt overwhelmed by the need to prove her value and place in the industry, she often dedicated more time at work than home. With changes in her work environment and the amount of support she received, she reinforces that balance is achievable.

The ability to do something doesn't necessarily mean one should do it. Experiencing this a few times in her career, Cynthia shared that she often found herself overwhelmed with responsibilities because others had abandoned theirs. Often management can exacerbate the issue, by not delegating tasks equally, and by assigning all critical tasks to one high performer, leaving them feeling overworked and undervalued. Cynthia shares that it is crucial to voice your feelings in the workplace; excelling doesn't require handling everything alone.

A pivotal moment in Cynthia’s career occurred when her present company offered her an incredible job opportunity. Cynthia, in the previous years, had been striving relentlessly to demonstrate her value and merit. She often felt invisible, underappreciated, and replaceable. Her present company has recognized her past efforts, acknowledged her hard work, and has made her feel valued and indispensable.

Next achievement in progress:

In Cynthia’s new position, she is encountering an vast amount of new information while simultaneously growing to understand and apply it. Her new objective is to excel in this role and keep charging forward to become a leading expert and authority in the field of data center construction. In the essence of the book, “Rhinoceros Success” by Scott Alexander, Cynthia states “I am a Rhino, and I will succeed”.
